ALBUM OUT IN JULY 2026

 

WLMZ is the solo project of drummer Jonas Wilms.

​

“I’ve always had a desire to make a hip-hop-influenced modern jazz album.” Jonas Wilms has spent the past two years focusing entirely on his own musical interests.

​

Inspired by J Dilla, Slum Village, Robert Glasper, J3PO, Chris Dave, and many others, he concentrated on beats and sounds of a special kind. The result is a collection of experimental songs that captivate with their genre-spanning energy.

Armed with these ideas, Jonas headed to a studio in Hamburg for four days. Together with Nicolas Börger (The KBCS, Nneka, Thomas D) and Jonathan Ihlenfeld Cuniado (Triluk Gurtu, Anika Nilles) both longtime collaborators completely different dynamic emerged on site. The vibe in the room was different from that of the pre- production. The songs and ideas he’d brought with him were put on the back burner for the time being. Created in the moment through the joy of jamming and playing together - new ideas immediately emerged, which were directly turned into songs and recorded.

“It would have been a shame if we’d spent the time in the studio reproducing my pre- productions. Everything new was created on the fly. It was indescribable.” – Jonas Wilms – Maybe you could call it a “magic moment”- but the interplay between the three musicians brought the second Release CHAPTER TWO to life. A hybrid of hip hop and jazz.
